Native species can reduce the establishment of invasive alien species if sown in high density and using competitive species

چکیده
Invasion of alien species is one the main drivers land degradation threatening both natural and managed ecosystems. Ecological restoration crucial in controlling invasion to improve biotic resistance avoid further degradation. We investigated possibility establishment invasive (IAS) by native seed addition. tested if trait similarity or increased propagule pressure results suppression IAS at early stage development. set up a sowing experiment with three widespread Hungary different life forms functional groups (Asclepias syriaca, Conyza canadensis, Tragus racemosus) four Pannonic sand grassland (Festuca vaginata, Galium verum, Gypsophila paniculata, Saponaria officinalis). found no significant differences germination ability seedling emergence between IAS, despite thousand-seed weight. Using univariate general linear models, we that can be reduced adding high densities but also depending on identity. Instead similar traits, seeding competitor perennial grass grasslands (F. vaginata) all studied most. Our confirm effectively controlled addition stage, especially applying higher competitive species. conclude invasion-resistant achieved combination several factors, including high-density match

Species distribution modelling of invasive alien species; Pterois miles for current distribution and future suitable habitats
The present study aims to predict the potential geographic distribution and future expansion of invasive alien lionfish (Pterois miles) with ecological niche modelling along the Mediterranean Sea. The primary data consisted of occurrence points of P. miles in the Mediterranean and marine climatic data layers were collected from global databases. All the used models run 100% su...
متن کاملOrigin matters: diversity affects the performance of alien invasive species but not of native species.
At local scales, it has often been found that invasibility decreases with increasing resident plant diversity. However, whether resident community diversity similarly resists invasion by alien versus native species is seldom studied. We examined this issue by invading constructed native plant assemblages that varied in species and functional richness with invasive alien or native Asteraceae spe...
متن کاملFlowering phenology of invasive alien plant species compared with native species in three Mediterranean-type ecosystems.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Flowering phenology is a potentially important component of success of alien species, since elevated fecundity may enhance invasiveness. The flowering patterns of invasive alien plant species and related natives were studied in three regions with Mediterranean-type climate: California, Spain and South Africa's Cape region. METHODS A total of 227 invasive-native pairs were ...
متن کاملA multi-species experiment in their native range indicates pre-adaptation of invasive alien plant species.
*To understand prerequisites of biological invasions, it is imperative to know whether species have traits that pre-adapt them to become invasive elsewhere. However, few experimental studies have explicitly tested this by comparing traits between invasive and noninvasive species in their native range instead of in the nonnative range. *We used native plant material of 14 European congeneric pai...
متن کاملNative and alien plant species inventory and diversity in disturbed forests and its economic value
The study was conducted to assess the native and alien plant species in one of the highly disturbed forest (S1) and less disturbed forest (S2) in Mt. Manunggal, Cebu Island, Philippines. Twenty-four quadrats with a size of 20mx20 m were established using a quadrat sampling technique to identify and record all plant species. Diversity indices were utilized to determine species abundance, richnes...
